Instagram Keyword Search Feature

Instagram is upgrading its search functionality which will give users to find content by specific keywords to find profiles, locations, and hashtags. Until now, if you have gone searching for something on Instagram, the results have been limited to Top, Accounts, Locations, and Hashtags.

According to the report from Social Media Today, users are now able to search for posts using keywords that may appear in photo & video captions based on posts that include those exact keywords. This Instagram functionality makes it easier to find a wide range of content and this could also change search consideration for brands and businesses to maximize their Instagram performance and visibility.

As of now, Instagram’s search update is available in six English countries including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. Soon this will introduce to all other country Instagram users.

For example, previously if you wanted to show up for relevant searches you had to include the right hashtags to get into results. But after this new Instagram technical feature, you don’t need to add every possible hashtag variation to increase post and profile visibility. So the keywords you use within your caption will be enough to ensure people find your content.

How Instagram Keyword Search Work?

Instagram keyword search works by allowing users to type in a keyword such as “social media marketing agency” rather than being used a hashtag like #socialmediamarketingagency. Search results should then surface posts about social media marketing agencies regardless of whether they’re not explicitly labeled all things considered. It’s not known how Instagram figures out what a post is about without depending on hashtags. It’s realized that Instagram will utilize inscriptions to surface posts for a catchphrase look, yet even there are as yet numerous inquiries.

Still many of us, don’t know how the Instagram algorithm will works. Same as this functionality also has raised many questions in their users’ minds. For example – is it exact keyword match only or Instagram’s algorithm understands synonyms or Is there any AI or machine learning involved to help the algorithm recognize what’s depicted in an image, like this more doubts.

Limited Insta Keyword Search

According to Instagram, keyword searches will be “limited to general interest topics and search terms that are within Instagram’s community guidelines”. So not every niche topic and keywords are will be searchable in this way.

Instagram Keyword Ranking Factor

The Instagram spokesperson says the team considers it will also rank your posts by its keyword search results based on several factors “including the “post captions, type of content, posted date, and some more”. Instagram ranking factor also look to highlight the most relevant matches to each user, based on algorithm calculations.

It’s not a complete keyword searching process; some criteria plays into how the content should be displayed. This keyword process could have an impact on search and discovery, and how people find your profile on this top social media platform.

To know how this keyword search works, it’s best to running a few tests and seeing how your posts perform with and without hashtags to find out the best Instagram strategy.

  • Chat with friends who use Facebook

The report says that as of now Instagram users can’t able to text Facebook friends directly by using this new update.

Once you tap the update, the regular insta DM icon in the top right corner is replaced by the Facebook Messenger logo. Many US and Indian Instagram users greet that the chats are more colorful and the sender’s messages appear in purple and blue colors.

The Verge reports that the Facebook spokesperson said, “A small set of people were able to update to a new test experience for Instagram messaging. We hope they enjoy the experience and we are looking forward to testing it in other countries so we can keep learning from this.” Anecdotally this rollout seems a lot bigger than “a small set of people,” but we’ll have to take Facebook’s word for it.

Facebook said it was testing the experience of rebuilding the messaging infrastructure so users who were could connect to all Facebook apps with the messenger. It’s an end-to-end encrypted system and by integrating these apps, Facebook may be able to compete more directly with Apple’s iMessage.

Messaging Apps Statistics

According to Statista, WhatsApp is the biggest social messaging app with around two billion monthly active users followed by Facebook messenger and China app WeChat respectively 1.3 billion and 1.2 billion users.

In 2019, Apple said there were 900 million active iPhone users out there and they are 1.4 billion active Apple devices which mean the iMessage user base is probably close to the total number of iPhone users. So that Mark Zuckerberg said Apple’s iMessage is the biggest competitor for them.

Facebook will soon be merging WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, which would create a 3.3 billion user super network, accounting for about 43 percent of the world’s population on a single messaging service.

Instagram is now one of the most popular social media platforms among other apps. Daily around 500 million+ users are active on Instagram and it provides the best content in the form of photos and videos. While scrolling through your Instagram feed, you might like certain images and videos that you think to save on your mobile. Instagram offers various incredible opportunities for businesses and creators of all sizes to reach their target audiences. But nowadays almost every brand join Instagram to promote their services or products that become more competitive and harder to stand out.

In late 2015, Instagram opened up Instagram ads by using the Facebook advertising system. It will helpful for marketers can reach any specific segment of Instagram’s 1 Billion users and 500+ million people using Instagram every day. The Instagram advertisement has become an attractive feature for brands looking to increase engagement, followers, and profits, too.

As of last week, we must connect our Facebook page and ads manager to run Instagram ads. But this Monday (Jul-24-2020) Instagram can allow new advertisers in some regions (Turkey and the U.S) to create Instagram ad campaigns without linking to a Facebook Page. This feature is only for those promoting posts on Instagram for the first time and those who have already linked their accounts on the two platforms cant able to do. This Instagram ad feature is very useful and easier for brands and creators that haven’t already promoted any posts on Instagram.

The Facebook-owned photo and video sharing network said the new option is unrelated to calls to refuse advertising on Facebook over its role in the spreading of hate speech, harassment, and miss leading information, adding that it has been testing this feature for few months.

Instagram shared details in a help center post on how to create instagram ads without a Facebook Ad Account Connection. Instagram business account users can create ads, manage promotions, and view insights all in the Instagram mobile app itself.
