Spaces is an audio-only voice chat feature that lets a host stream voice chats with other Twitter users. Audience members can either listen in or become part of the conversation.
Last year December, Twitter introduced Spaces: a live audio room conversation feature on Twitter. Since then, Twitter has been building and testing with a limited group of people and has found that hearing people’s voices bring conversations on Twitter to life in a completely new way.
Recently, Twitter announced in a blog post that it is opening its spaces feature to all users with at least 600 followers including both iOS and Android users. Twitter also officially plans to launch new features like Ticketed Spaces, scheduling features, reminders, support for co-hosting, accessibility improvements, and more.
Ticketed Spaces lets Space hosts monetize their Spaces for a monetary fee. A limited group of Twitter users will be able to test Ticketed Spaces “in the upcoming months”. Users can also be able to set reminders for spaces and schedule time slots for future Spaces. Co-hosted Spaces are better live captioning, and better access to Spaces via a profile icon on a Twitter feed are all coming to Spaces in the future.
The Spaces feature came about because of the mind-boggling prevalence that emerged from Clubhouse, a startup application dependent on a similar reason: facilitating public voice chat with different clients and permit audiences to tune in live. Clubhouse gained its prominence during the center of the pandemic as many were isolating and investing free time at home.
Spaces available in both android and iOS Twitter app, which is a big advantage as it competes with Clubhouse which is currently available on iOS only.

How to Start Spaces in Twitter
Spaces are public and appear on top of the timeline along with Fleets. It will show up only when someone you follow has started a Space, then you can join the conversation as a listener. Even if you don’t follow that person you can still join if you have the space link. A host can Invite people to join a space by sending an invite via DM, Tweeting the link on your timeline, or sharing other social media platforms. Twitter Spaces has a limit of up to 11 people including the host who can speak but there is no limit on the number of listeners.
Here is the simple step to create twitter spaces
- Open the Twitter app, and press on the tweet compose button.
- You’ll see a new Spaces icon which is multiple circles forming a diamond shape.
- Tap on the icon to start a new Space.
- You can also start by tapping on your profile image in Fleets, scroll to the far right, and select Spaces.
If you don’t see the icon, the Spaces feature may not be available to you as of now. Accounts with protected Tweets are not able to create spaces. They can join and speak in other people’s spaces.
How Twitter Spaces Works
On Twitter for iOS and Android, when someone you follow starts or speaks in a Space, it’ll appear at the top of your timeline (fleets) as a purple bubble for as long as it’s live. When you join a Space as a listener, you can react to what you hear with emojis, check out any pinned Tweets, follow along with captions, Tweet or DM Space, or request to speak. Anyone can report and block others in the Space, or report the Space if you violate the space rules.
