Facebook Changes Company Name to Meta For Rebranding – Everything You Need to Know About Meta Inc

Facebook Changes Company Name to Meta

Facebook Company Name Changed to Meta

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Thursday (Oct-28-2021) at his company’s Connect augmented and virtual reality conference event that they changed its company name to Meta Platforms Inc for rebranding. This brings together our apps and technologies under one new company brand. Meta’s main focus is to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities and grow businesses globally. Zuckerberg says he’s chosen Meta, because of its meaning in Greek – “beyond”

“We are a company that builds technology to connect,” Zuckerberg said. “Together, we can finally put people at the center of our technology. And together, we can unlock a massively bigger creator economy.”

Facebook Company Name Changed Not Facebook App Name

Facebook is the world’s most used social media application where users post personal updates and connect with family, friends, and business through FB pages and groups. The company’s corporate structure also won’t change. But on Dec. 1, its stock will start trading under a new ticker symbol, MVRS.

The change of name does not apply to its platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp, only the parent company that owns them. The company said it would better “encompass” what it does, as it expands its reach beyond social media into trending areas like virtual reality (VR). In 2015, Google rechanged its company calling its parent firm Alphabet, however, the name has not caught on.

Facebook Company New Logo – Meta

The Facebook company name change Meta Inc comes with a new logo color of a blue scheme designed like an infinity-shaped symbol, slightly askew, almost like a pretzel.

Today we are seen as a social media company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people, and the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said.

What is Metaverse?

“Metaverse,” a virtual computer-generated space where people can interact with anyone. It includes other growing businesses that aren’t its namesake sites, such as virtual reality hardware branch Oculus and Horizon Worlds, virtual reality software that’s still in beta testing mode. Meta Inc also said this week it will spend about $10 billion over the next year developing the technologies required for building the metaverse.

Meta Video Demo

Mark Zuckerberg provided a demonstration of the company’s ambitions for the metaverse. The demo was a Pixar-like animation of software the company hopes to build earlier. It included users hanging out in space as cartoon-like versions of themselves or fantastical characters, like a robot, that represent their virtual selves. They believe the metaverse will be the successor to the mobile internet and metaverse would need to be built with safety and privacy in mind. So they plan to hire 10,000 in the EU to work on a metaverse project.

Privacy Controls of Meta

Mark Zuckerberg assured that the metaverse will have strong privacy standards, parental controls, and disclosures about data use that his social network has famously lacked. “Ads are going to continue being an important part of the strategy across the social media parts of what we do, and it will probably be a meaningful part of the metaverse, too,” Zuckerberg said in the company’s most recent earnings call.

Virtual Headset and AR smart Glasses

In the event, Meta announced a new virtual reality headset named Project Cambria. The device will be a high-end product available at a higher price point than the $299 Quest 2 headset. Project Cambria will be released next year. Meta Inc also announced the code name of its first fully AR-capable smart glasses: Project Nazare. The glasses are “still a few years out,” the company said in a blog post. Zuckerberg said, “we still have a ways to go with Nazare, but we’re making good progress.”

Meta Twitter Handle and Website Address

Zuckerberg owns the Twitter handle @meta and official website meta.com, which now redirects to about page on Facebook. The site was previously redirected to meta.org, a biomedical research discovery tool that was a project of the Chan Zuckerberg Science Initiative. That’s part of the philanthropic arm Zuckerberg co-founded with his physician wife, Priscilla Chan, in 2015. In a Medium post on Thursday, the group says it’s sunsetting Meta.org on March 31st, 2022.
