What is Bump in the Facebook Messenger App?

The Bump feature in the Messenger app enables users to quickly mention and resend messages, photos, or videos without the need to reply or manually copy-paste them. If you “bumped message”, it automatically pushed to the top of the chat. Instead of employing the Reply feature or copying and pasting, you can utilize the Bump option to highlight specific items you’ve sent.

This feature is designed to save users valuable time by simplifying the process of referencing and resending content within conversations. You can bump your own message or someone else’s previous message to resurface it to the top of a chat, among the most recent messages. You can effortlessly apply the Bump function to any message, photo, or video, whether sent or received. As of now, Messages such as shared location details, polls, and missed calls cannot be bumped.

How To Bump a Message in a Chat on Messenger?

  • Open Messenger on your phone.
  • Go to the chat and locate the message you want to bump.
  • Now long press the message and tap more
  • Click Bump. That’s it, Now you will see that “You bumped this message” on the top of that message.

How to Remove Bumped Messages in FB Messenger?

If you’ve recently bumped a message in Messenger and wish to undo or remove it, you can achieve this by using the “Unsend” option. Follow these steps:

  • Tap and hold the bumped message.
  • Locate and tap the three dots at the bottom right corner.
  • Choose “Remove” from the options.
  • Select “Unsend.”

By following these steps, you will successfully remove the bumped message without affecting the original content of the message itself.

Can we bump a message on Messenger on PC?

No. You cannot use this bump feature in Desktop Messenger. 

The Facebook Messenger app is accessible across all operating system versions and offers a wide range of features for exchanging messages in both individual and group chats. However, the latest addition to Messenger, the Bump feature, is currently unavailable on Messenger Desktop. While functionalities like message removal, forwarding, and pinning are accessible, the ability to bump messages is exclusive to the Messenger app for Android and iOS platforms.

Fix the Bump Option Not Working in Messenger

If you don’t see the bump option in your FB Messenger app, and it’s missing or not showing, then updating the app is the only solution available. Proceed to update the Messenger app to the latest version from the Play Store or iOS App Store. After updating, restart your device. Upon reopening the app, you should now observe the presence of the bump option.

Additionally, ensure that secret conversations are disabled, as the Bump message option won’t appear in a secret chat. If the bump option is still missing even after updating the app, you may be encountering a cached version. To resolve this, clear the cache files for Messenger and restart your device. If you are unsure how to do this, follow these steps: Go to Settings on your smartphone, then locate and tap the Apps section in the list. Select Manage Apps and find Messenger from the apps list. Tap Clear Data at the bottom. Confirm clearing the cache data for the Messenger app by tapping OK. After this process, restart your Android device and open Messenger; the Bump option should now be visible.
