Twitter Opens Applications for Ticketed Spaces and Super Follows

Twitter Monetization Feature: Try Super Follows and Ticketed Spaces

Twitter is fastly improving its feature and moving with the next phase of its creator monetization options. Twitter is opening applications for a limited test of its Super Follows and Ticketed Spaces features which are initially US-based Twitter users can apply separately for each program through Twitter’s mobile app soon it will be available to all other countries. Now, Twitter is rapidly adding new features and acquiring companies like Revue (a newsletter platform), Ueno (a creative agency), and Breaker (a social podcasting platform).

As per Twitter:

“At Twitter, we want to help people make money, and give them tools they can use to be rewarded for their work and feel supported by their audience. We’re looking for a small group of people to be the first to try Ticketed Spaces and Super Follows with their audiences and share feedback. Help us test and improve these experiences before they launch more broadly in the coming months.”

Ticketed Spaces and Super Follows

Earlier this year in February during an Analyst Day event, Twitter announced they will select a “small group” of users to test its new monetization features. The Super Follows feature lets users charge $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99 per month for access to exclusive content. Ticketed Spaces lets them charge between $1 and $999 for access to one of Twitter’s social audio chat rooms, and it offers extra features like setting a room size cap. Test group participants will initially keep 97 percent of the money they make with Ticketed Spaces or Super Follows, after the fee that iOS and Android charge for in-app purchases. Twitter will increase its cut from 3 percent to 20 percent if a user makes a total of $50,000 on both systems.

Twitter’s 20 percent commission is lower than that of some other subscription platforms like youtube, Spotify, and clubhouse. Amazon-owned video service Twitch takes a 50 percent cut from subscriptions, and YouTube charges 30 percent of membership fees. Clubhouse and Instagram have features that let listeners tip speakers or award badges in a live audio space, but the apps don’t yet allow for advance ticket sales. Another way for top creators to make money on these apps is through Creator Funds. So, Ticketed Spaces seem very promising though, since Spotify Greenroom, Clubhouse, and other competitors don’t offer similar options like Twitter. But Discord is testing ticketed audio events on its Stage Discovery portal, but they aren’t out to its users yet.

Applications to use Super Follows and Ticketed Spaces are only available on mobile. Super Follows are restricted to iOS users, while Ticketed Spaces are available on both iOS and Android. Users can see if they’re eligible to apply by checking a new “Monetization” option in the mobile app sidebar.
