- Log in to your Gmail account on your Mac or PC web browser.
- Click on the gear icon in the top-right to access the Settings menu.
- Click “Settings.”
- Click the “Accounts and Import” tab at the top of the screen.
- Click “Other Google Account settings.”
- It redirects you to your Google account settings page.
- Click “Personal info” on the left side menu.
- Click on your phone number under “Contact info.”
- Click on the arrow next to your phone number on the next page.
- Click on the pencil icon to edit your current phone number.
- Enter your password and re-login your Gmail account.
- Click “Update number.”
- Enter your new number.
- Click “Next.”
- Click “Get code” to verify your phone number.
How To Add Phone Number on Gmail/Google Account

- Add Phone number along with your country code on the pop-up.
- Enter your new number.
- Click “Next.”
- Click “Get code” to verify your phone number.
That’s it, your new Gmail recovery phone number was added to your google account. You can also add a backup phone number to your profile.
How to change your phone number in Gmail on an Android or iOS device
You can also change or add your cell phone number in the Gmail app on your android or ios device. Follow the below steps and update your number on your google account.
- Open the Gmail app on your iOS or Android device.
- Tap the three bars in the top-left corner.
- Tap “Settings.”
- Tap “Manage your Google account.”
- Tap the “Personal info” tab at the top.
- Tap on your phone number under the “Contact info” section.
- Tap on the phone number you’d like to change again on the next page.
- Tap on the pencil icon to make changes.
- Enter your Gmail password and click “Next.”
- Update number or add a new number and click “Next.”
- Click “Get code” to verify your phone number.
Once you go through all these steps, you will see that the phone number in the contact info section of your Gmail account will have changed immediately.

The fact is without signing in to your Google or Gmail account you can’t change your phone number. You must log in to your account to update the new number. If you forgot your Gmail account password, reset it via phone number verification or backup email verification and then update it.
